Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Ten Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in a series of United Kingdom (UK) Border Agency enforcement operations for illegal working and other immigration offences in the last month.
“Action is being taken to remove all 10 from the UK,” a British High Commission press statement said in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The enforcement operations took place between August 19 and September
15 as part of planned nationwide action by the UK Border Agency to tackle illegal working, sham marriages, bogus colleges and organized immigration crime.
The migrants were arrested for working illegally at restaurants in Derby, Hereford, Skegness, Mablethorpe (Lincolnshire) and Cheshire.
The businesses have been issued with warnings that they face up to £100,000 (approx BDT 10700,000) in fines for employing the workers, unless they can prove they carried out the correct right-to-work checks.
In addition to these cases, a Bangladeshi man was sentenced in August to six months in prison after applying to stay in the UK using a false identity. He will be deported following his sentence.
