Sylhet, Bangladesh (BBN)-At least 32 patients including 10 children have died in the last 24 hours at state-owned Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Doctor Mohammad Abdus Salam, the deputy director at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, told media that the authorities of the hospital are concerned about the unusual death number at the hospital in the last 24 hours beginning from 8:00am Monday.

The relatives of the newborns however alleged that the children died due to negligence of the doctors, a claim that Mr Salam denied.

“Nearly 10 patients including three children die every day in the hospital.....But this time the number of deaths is unusual,” Mr Salam said.

He also identified that the children died due to normal newborn diseases such as neonatal birth sepsis, pneumonia and septicemia.

The hospital authorities however formed a probe committee to investigate whether there was any negligence for the deaths.
