Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Ten pirates were killed in a gunfight with police in the country’s southwestern district Bhola on Wednesday, police said.

A fisherman however was killed accidentally when he was running for shelter during the gunfight.

An official of Monpura police station reportedly said they have been informed that the pirates were going to loot the fishing trawlers and houses in Bhasan Char on the south of Char Nizam

A strong contingent of police rushed to the spot and found the pirates were looting the trawlers.
As the police came close, pirates from two trawlers opened fire at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.

Monpura police and witnesses said pirates attacked over 100 trawlers this month.

Bashir Ahmed, Bhola police super, visited the scene later in the evening.
