18-party postpones Saturday’s rally

Last updated: February 9, 2013
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The BNP-Jamaat-led 18-party opposition alliance on Friday night postponed their rally scheduled for Saturday demanding restoration of the caretaker government system.
BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed told reporters that the opposition alliance postponed the program as Dhaka Metropolitan Police had not given them permission to hold the rally in front of the BNP central office in the capital's Nayapaltan area.
However, Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain of DMP Motijheel Zone early Friday told The Daily Star, a local newspaper, that they had not put any obstruction for Saturday’s rally in front of the BNP central office.
The 18-party alliance backtracked from its decision to hold the rally due to the ongoing mass agitation at the city's Shahbagh demanding death penalty for war criminals of the Liberation War, the newspaper reported quoting sources in the BNP.
