Jessore, Bangladesh (BBN)- A total of 18 trafficked young girls have returned here after serving two years jail in India, police said.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over them to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through Benapole check post on Sunday last, a local police official said.
He also said the girls were trafficked to India three to four years ago through different border areas of Jessore on the pretext of giving them good jobs.
Indian police arrested them from Mumbai on charges illegal staying and sent them to jail, he said adding that an Indian humanitarian organization ‘Sanglap’ took them to their shelter home after they had served two years in jail.
The authority of Sanglap later contacted with Bangladesh Women Lawyers' Association (BWLA) to take initiative to bring the girls back to their home, the police official added.
