Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh (BBN)– At least 100 people were injured in a collision between two trains at Kakina Rail Station at Kaliganj upazila in the country’s northern Lalmonirhat district on Saturday morning.

Local people said the accident took place in the area around 8:52 am when a Burimari-bound commuter train crashed into a Lalmonirhat-bound local train at the station while crossing the level crossing.

At least 100 passengers of both trains were injured while trying to get down from the trains hurriedly, reports UNB.

Other reports, however, said that more than 40 passengers were injured in the accident.

The injured were rushed to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

A four-member probe committee has been formed to look into the collision, a railway senior official confirmed.

However, the railway authorities have suspended Kakina Station Master Asir Uddin and pointsman Nazir Hossain on charge of negligence in their duty.

Train movement on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari route was suspended following the incident.
