Dinajpur, Bangladesh (BBN)-At least four people were killed and five injured when a truck fell into a roadside ditch in Dinajpur, a northern district of Bangladesh, early Wednesday.
The accident took place when a truck laden with logs coming from opposite direction overturned and plunged into a roadside ditch in front of the main gate of the Barapukuria Coal Mine in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur, local police said.
The truck overturned as the trucker lost his control over the steering, the police added.
A number of day labourers who were travelling sitting on the logs were trapped under the wood and four of them died on the spot.
Five of them also sustained injuries in the accident, police added.
Two of the injured were rushed to Parbatipur Upazila Health Complex while three others were sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
However the driver and helper of the truck managed to flee immediately after the accident.
The police also seized the truck.
