280 police leave for Sudan to join U.N. mission

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Two more contingents of 280 police personnel left for Sudan on Wednesday and Friday to join the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur.

Of them, 140 members of police left the capital, Dhaka on Friday night by a chartered flight of UN. And 140 other members left Dhaka on Wednesday.

Superintendents of Police Lutfur Rahman Mondol and Debdash Bhattacharya led the two contingents, a Police Headquarters press statement said.

Some 1,062 members of Bangladesh Police are currently engaged in peacekeeping missions in different countries including East Timor, Kosovo, Congo, Liberia, Ivory Coast and the Sudan.
