Bangladesh’s DSE turnover hits 6-month low

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh's stocks extended their losing spell for the three consecutive sessions on Sunday with turnover hitting six months low on the premier bourse, as ongoing pessimism kept investors mostly inactive.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the port city bourse of the country, started with a negative note which sustained till end of the session amid choppy trading.
The single-day turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) came down to six months low to BDT 2.58 billion, registering a decline of 17 per cent over the previous session’s BDT 3.11 billion.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange dropped 23.17 points while the selective category index of Chittagong Stock Exchange also shedded 38.53 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
By the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, settled at 4,275.48, shedding 23.17 points or 0.54 per cent.
The two other indices also closed lower. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 7.23 points or 0.43 per cent to finish at 1,660.02 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 5.47 points or 0.52 per cent to close at 1,050.62 points.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 314 issues traded, 209 closed lower, 64 higher and 41 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Linde Bangladesh dominated the turnover chart for the second running session with shares worth BDT 184 million changing hands, followed by Doreen Power, United Power, Bangladesh Building Systems and MJL BD.
Doreen Power was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 7.11 per cent, while Dragon Sweater was the worst loser, slumping by 12.93 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, falling 38.53 points to 8,005.10 points.
Losers beat gainers as 139 closed lower, 52 closed higher and 28 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 4.67 million shares and mutual fund units worth BDT 142 million in turnover.
