Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Thursdays upheld the High Court orders to demolish the BGMEA building in Dhaka.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha upheld the order rejecting a leave to appeal against the High Court order.
There are allegations that Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGMEA) constructed the building on the grabbing lands of Hatirjheel, where the city development authority (RAJUK) is implementing the sum of 1,980 crore (19.8 Billion) Hatirjheel-Begunbari integrated project.
In a verdict of 2011, a High Court bench of justice ordered to demolish it in 90 days.
Two years later the full verdict was available when BGMEA filed a appeal-petition against the ruling.
The chief justice heard the matter, rejected its plea and upheld the High Court ruling on Thursday.
