Bangladesh’s stocks stay flat for fifth session

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks closed almost flat in red territory for the fifth day on Monday, as investors were mostly cautious ahead of monetary policy statement (MPS) scheduled to be unveiled on Tuesday.
Both bourses – the premier bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened with a mixed trend and witnessing volatility almost throughout the session, ultimately ended in flat.
The key index of the DSE fell 1.89 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse advanced 0.14 points at the end of the four hours trading session.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 4,549.18, shedding 1.89 points of 0.04 percent over the previous day.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also saw a fractional loss of 0.69 points or 0.03 percent to settle at 1,778.13 points.
However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) inched 1.11 points or 0.09 percent higher to close at 1,114.90 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, however, improved to BDT 3.95 billion which was 16.5 percent higher than the previous day’s value of BDT 3.39 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 327 issues traded, 151 closed lower, 114 higher and 62 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation dominated the turnover chart with 1.63 million shares worth nearly BDT 186 million changing hands, followed by ACME Laboratories BDT 172 million, BSRM BDT 169 million, United Power BDT 140 million and GrameenPhone BDT 117 million.
Exim Bank First Mutual Fund was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.09 percent, while Modern Dyeing was the worst loser, plunging by 9.81 percent.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, edged higher with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX – advancing 0.14 point to finish at 8,518.04 points.
Losers beat gainers 110 to 83, with 58 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 6.20 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 198 million.
