Bangladesh’s stocks turn volatile at midday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed volatility at midday on Thursday as investors were active both sides of trading fence.
After previous day’s mild correction, the market opened with a positive note and the key index of the country’s major bourse advanced 5 points within first 2 minutes. But it lost all the initial gains within next five minutes.
However, it started to come positive terrain as the session progressed. After 30 minutes of trading, the key index advanced 1.13 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 20.84 points when the report was filing at 11:00am.
At 12:00 noon, DSEX saw a fractional loss of 0.15 point while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 5.89 points when the report was filing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
After one and a half hours of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stands at 5,580.48 points, losing 0.15 point when the report was filing at 12:00 noon.
However, the two other indices saw positive trend till then.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 0.85 point or 0.04 per cent to reach at 2,026.38 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 0.98 points or 0.07 per cent to reach at 1,305.08 points.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 4.28 billion when the report was filed at 12:00 noon largely backed by Baraka Power.
Baraka Power dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 518 million changing hands till then, followed by LankaBangla BDT 326 million, IFAD Autos BDT 222 million, Generation Next Fashion BDT 155 million and Fortune Shoes BDT 121 million.
Of the issues traded till then, 103 advanced, 151 declined and 58 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) saw positive trend till 12:00 noon as its Selective Category Index – CSCX –gaining 5.89 points to stand at 10,477.64 points, also at 12:00 noon.
Of the issues traded till then, 65 gained, 86 declined and 34 issues remained unchanged with BDT 232 million in turnover.
