Bangladesh signs deals with India for sustainable development

Khulna, Bangladesh (BBN) - India and Bangladesh signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the sustainable development of Khulna city with financial aid from Government of India.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed Wednesday at the Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance between India and Bangladesh for undertaking a project for the construction of a Girls’ School in Khalishpur, Khulna, said a press release.
The total cost of the project is BDT12.08 crore which is being funded by the Government of India under its ‘Sustainable Development Projects in Bangladesh’ programme.
Apart from construction of the school building, the project includes supply of complete furniture for the school, desktop PCs, laptops, photocopying machine, multi media projectors and a 33-seater school bus.
It is specially significant that this MoU was signed on International Women’s Day.
This MoU and the Khulna-Kolkata rail link which is expected to be inaugurated shortly will re-iterate India’s close ties with Khulna.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh signed a Tripartite MoU in this regardon behalf of the Government of India.
From the Bangladesh side, the MoU was signed by Kazi Shofiqul Azam, Senior Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance and Md. Moniruzzamman Moni, Mayor, Khulna City Corporation.
Senior officials of the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Ministry of Finance and the Khulna City Corporation were also present at the ceremony.
