Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh (BBN) – Nepal suffered their second consecutive match at the hands of hosts Bangladesh by 83 runs in the ACC Emerging Nations Cup held at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Chasing the 258-run target, Nepal made 174 runs in 42.3 overs loosing all wickets, reports The Kathmandu Post.
Earlier, in the limited 50 overs Nepali bowlers took nine Bangadeshi wickets in regular intervals to hold the hosts at 257 runs after Nepal won the toss and elected to field.
Nepal’s poor batting form continued as opening duo—captain Gyanendra Malla and Sunil Dhamala—gave away their wicket cheaply to the Bangladeshi attack.
Skipper Malla could not open his run account while Dhamala faced 13 balls to score 1 run.
They were quickly followed by Asif Sheikh.
However, Dipendra Singh Airee and Dilip Nath lifted up the Nepali innings and put up a 98-run fourth wicket partnership.
Airee scored 56 runs off 85 balls and Nath put up 41 off 62 deliveries before being bowled by Rahatul Ferdous Javed.
Other Nepali batsmen could not cash in on the momentum created by Airee and Nath except for Binod Bhandari who scored a quick 33 runs off 23 balls.
Avinash Karn was the star bowler for Nepal as he took three wickets in quick successions.
Likewise, Sandeep Lamichhane continued is decent bowling form to claim two wickets and Mahaboob Alam, Dipendra Singh Airee and Gyanendra Malla took one wickets each for Nepal.
Karn took the first wicket of Azmir Ahmed on the first over of the innings. Mohammed Saif Hassan quickly followed Ahmed after being caught by Sharad Vesawkar off Karn’s ball just scoring 7 runs.
Karn’s next victim was MD Mithun who faced four balls and returned back to the pavilion scoring naught.
For the Bangladeshi side Nasir Hossain played a memorable knock scoring 109 runs off 115 balls and remained not out. Bangladeshi skipper Mominul Haque also contributed 61 runs off 78 balls before being caught by Gyanendra Malla off Sandeep Lamichhane’s delivery and Abul Hasan Raju put up 29 runs off 30 deliveries for the home team to post a decent total against Nepal.
