Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The draft guideline of Third Generation or “3G” mobile services will be available on telecom ministry’s website this month for opinion of the stakeholders, officials said on Saturday.
“The guideline will be posted on the ministry’s website this month to allow the stakeholders for giving their opinion before its finalization,” a senior official of the telecommunications ministry said, adding that the government is determined to complete the auction of mobile broadband by the end of this calendar year.
The official also said the state-owned Teletalk would launch 3G mobile phone services in September this year as per the decision of government.
By installing the 3G technology, mobile users will enjoy real time video calling, live mobile TV, high speed download, e-education, public health services, tele-medicine and e-shopping through their mobile phones.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has prepared draft guideline on 3G mobile phone services in April with target to make available the service across the country by this year. Later they sent the guideline to the telecom ministry which is evaluating it.
The telecom regulator has planned to select five operators- four locals with Teletalk and one foreign entity through auction.
The base price of the auction is suggested to be US$ 30 million for per MHz spectrum of 2100 band. Every operator has to buy 10 MHz spectrum for the service, as per the draft guideline.
