4 Central Bank High-Ups Formally Resign

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Four high-ups of the Bangladesh Bank formally submitted their resignation letters on Monday.

The high-ups are: deputy governors (DGs) Kazi Sayedur Rahman and Khurshid Alam, head of BFIU Masud Biswas and Policy Adviser of the central bank Abu Farah Md Nasser.

Kazi Sayedur Rahman, Khurshid Alam and Masud Biswas submitted their resignation letters to the Financial Institutions Department under the Ministry of Finance while Abu Farah Md Nasser sent his resignation letter to the governor of the BB.

Sources said, the students gave an ultimatum to the four top officials of the central bank to resign by 1:00 pm today.

Students' representative Mohiuddin Roni turned up to the headquarters of the central bank at 12:30pm and gave this ultimatum on behalf of the students, BB officials said.

DGs – Nurun Nahar and Dr Md Habibur Rahman – are now performing their respective duties until a new governor is appointed.

The latest development came just a day after the interim government asked all the four deputy governors of the Bangladesh Bank to perform their respective duties until a new governor is appointed

In absence of the governor, DG Nurun Nahar is designated to look into the official letters of the governor and asked to send those to departments concerned.

Earlier on August 07, six contractual high officials of the central bank including the four were forced to resign in the face of the demonstrations carried out by the officials and employees of the BB.
