Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Some 576 Bangladesh nationals are waiting at Ras Jdir border point of Tunisia for repatriation, a foreign ministry statement said.
On Sunday, 11 Bangladesh nationals entered Tunisia. Ministry’s consular team at Ras Jdir has been receiving frequent calls from a good number of Bangladeshi families from different cities of Libya seeking advice about their return home.
The consular team is advising them to take a safe route to Ras Jdir and is coordinating their entry time into Ras Jdir with the available flights, the statement added.
A total of 34,867 Bangladesh nationals, who were employed in Libya, have been repatriated to Bangladesh till today. Of them, 3,832 people have returned on arrangement made by their employers while 27,070 persons have been repatriated under the coordination of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Of the total repatriates, 3,965 availed of Bangladesh Biman flights.
Since the beginning of repatriation of Bangladesh nationals from Libya, a total of 128 flights have operated. Among these, 112 flights were IOM chartered on a cost-sharing basis with the Bangladesh government while Bangladesh Biman independently operated 16 flights.
