Sirajganj, Bangladesh (BBN)-At least six people were killed and nearly 20 injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Sirajganj, a north western district of Bangladesh, Saturday afternoon.
Mohammad Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station, confirmed the casualties to the BBN.
The accident occurred around 3:00pm when a corrugated iron-sheet-loaded truck hit a bus of Antar Paribahan in Simanta Bazar area at the west side of Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge in Sirajganj, the police official said.
The truck hit the bus coming from opposite direction as its driver lost his control over the steering when the front right-side tyre of the truck split open, the OC added.
The truck was heading towards northern district from Dhaka while the bus was coming towards Dhaka, the OC said.
The trucker and five others died on the spot, he said.
Identities of the other victims were not known immediately.
On information, police rushed to the spot rescued the injured and recovered the bodies.
The injured were sent to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for treatment, the OC said.
