Comilla, Bangladesh (BBN)-At least seven passengers of a bus sustained burn injuries when miscreants firebombed the vehicle in Comilla, an eastern district of Bangladesh, early Thursday.
The arson attack took place on Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 1:00am when a bus of Unique Paribahan reached near Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in Chandina area of Comilla, local police said.
The bus packed with passengers was heading towards Rangamati from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
At first, the injured were taken to Comilla Medical College and Hospital, the police added.
Later, two of them were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital with nearly 20 percent burn injuries.
In the first four months of the year, the arson attack became a common phenomenon in Bangladesh during the BNP-led 20-party alliance-sponsored countrywide indefinite blockade coupled with frequent general strike.
The alliance enforced the political agitation, to protest the “confinement” of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office in Dhaka.
During the political unrest over 100 people were killed in arson attacks across the country mainly in district level while hundreds of vehicles were burnt and attacked.
The law enforcers also came under such types of attacks.
