Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The BNP-led 20-party alliance has again called a 72-hour general strike from Sunday 6:00am in Bangladesh.
The shutdown was called protesting the arrest and killing of the alliance leaders and activists in the name of shootout.
BNP Joint Secretary General Salauddin Ahmed, in a press statement said that the shutdown will continue till 6:00am Wednesday starting from 6:00am Sunday.
The alliance also demands the release of its leaders and activists including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed.
The announcement of the fresh shutdown came within a couple of hours the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, called a dawn-to-dusk strike protesting the killing and arrest of its leaders and activists in the name of shootout.
Earlier Friday evening, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the alliance not to enforce any more shutdown considering the SSC examinations.
