Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)-Law enforcers have detained 80 suspected activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and recovered firearms and ammunition during overnight raids in Chittagong, the port city of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion arrested two people along with 72 crude bombs and huge amount of bomb-making materials from the house of a BNP leader at Lalbagh in Dhaka early today, Rab sources said.
The drives which continued till Wednesday morning beginning from Tuesday night were conducted at Chittagong Government College and Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College, local police said.
Seventy-two suspected activists of Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, were picked up from Chittagong Government College while the rest eight were detained from Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College.
Nine firearms including an AK-22 and huge amounts of bullets and cartridges were recovered during the raids, the police added.
