Bangladesh slashes internet price by 42%

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The state-owned telecom operator Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) on Thursday slashed the dedicated internet price by 42 percent to BDT 2,800 for 1 megabit per second (Mbps).

The company has also cut all the other retail internet bandwidth prices significantly which will be applicable from April 1 with 15 percent extra value added tax charge, a BTCL announcement said.

The unlimited internet package users have to pay BDT 450 for 256 kilobits per second (Kbps), BDT 750 for 512 Kbps, BDT 1,150 for 1024 Kbps and BDT 1,600 for 1500 Kbps speed, according to the announcement. 

At the same time, the subscribers of different volume based data users will also enjoy double data, such as 2 GB users will get 4 GB with the same BDT 300 (256 Kbps speed), 5 GB to 10 GB with BDT 500 (512 Kbps) and 12 GB to 25 GB with BDT 1,000 (1024 Kbps), it added.
