India confirms 107 more cases of swine flu, total at 1,390

New Delhi, India (BBN)- India confirmed 107 more cases of the deadly Influenza A (H1N1) virus on Friday, putting the total number of cases in the country to 1390, the health ministry officials said.

Of the 107 new cases that tested positive for swine flu, 29 came from Mumbai, 13 from each New Delhi and Hyderabad, none from Bangalore, six from Kolkata, five from each Ahmedabad, Surat, and Gurgaon, four each from Pune and Osmanabad, two from each Naned, Nagpur, Goa and Srinagar and one each from Dhule, Nasik, Latur and Panchkula, according to a health ministry press statement.

“21 persons have died till Friday: Pune (13), Mumbai (2), Ahmedabad (1), Chennai (1), Vadodara (1), Nasik (1), Trivandrum (1) and Bangalore (1),” the statement added.

So far, 6,897 people have been tested and 1,390 of them are positive for Influenza A (H1N1). A total 699 out of the 6,897 tested have been identified through entry screening, 1,239 people through contact tracing and the rest were self reported, it noted.

"Of the 1,390 positive cases, 648 have been discharged," the ministry said, adding that a central team is stationed in Maharashtra to assist the state government in instituting appropriate public health measures.
