Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh whitewashed former World Cup champion Pakistan riding on 145-run opening partnership and Soumya Sarkar’s century stand in the third and last game of the three-match ODI series in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The hosts reached the 251-run target with eight wickets in hand at the Sher-e-Bangladesh National Stadium in Mirpur of Dhaka.
The Tigers touched the target in 39.3 overs which Pakistan attained in 49 overs.
In today’s feat, Sarkar obtained his maiden ODI century and scored 127 runs.
Sarkar was selected as Man of the Match while Tamim as Man of the Series for their outstanding performances.
Immediately after the triumph, Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Leader in Opposition in Parliament Rawshan Ershad and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia congratulated the Tigers.
Visiting Pakistan set the 251-run target losing all wickets in 49 overs.
Of the score, Azhar along contrinuted 101 while Aslam 45, Hafeez 4, Haris 53, Rizwan 4, Fawad 4, Riaz 7, Gul 0, Nasim 22, Babar 1. Junaid 4.
Prior to beginning of the match, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first.
Today’s match begin at 2:30pm (BST) and Bangladesh’s private television channel Gtv broadcasted the game live.
Bangladesh were well prepared for their third and last play of the three-match series against visiting Pakistan, eyeing an achievement of 3-0 series whitewash.
Bangladesh had set the aim after the 2-0 victory over their senior sub-continent rival.
On April 19, Bangladesh sealed the series by 2-0 victory beating Pakistan by seven wickets.
Earlier on April 17, Bangladesh coasted to a 79-run win in the first ODI against Pakistan at the same venue.
With the first victory, the Tigers concluded their 16-year long wait.
Tigers captain Mashrafe Mortaza earlier said: "We had two near-perfect performances in the first two games. If we continue in this manner, we have a chance to make it 3-0."
On the other hand, Pakistani skipper has expressed his hopes to have a good come back saying: “I want to keep my trust upon new guns; hope they will be able to contribute for the team soon.”
