Bangladesh’s Western Marine to build 10 ships for Indian company

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Western Marine Shipyard (WMS), a leading shipbuilder, on Saturday announced that the company will build 10 cargo ships for Indian business conglomerate Jindal Group.
This was disclosed at a press conference held at a city hotel on Saturday. Industries Minister Amir Hussain Amu, Deputy High Commissioner of India Sandeep Chakravorty and Chairman of Bank Asia Limited A Rouf Chowdhury were, among others, present.
It was told in the conference that Western Marine has already signed an agreement with Jindal Steel Works Limited on March 5 in Mumbai, India for building 10 units of Mini Bulk Carrier (MBC) in this regard.
The WMS will be building six units of these ships in the first phase in a row of two which are to be delivered in the next 18 months and the rest four units will be built in the second phase after successful completion of the first phase.
These ships will be built at about BDT 4.8 Billion (USD 61.25 million).
Members of Western Marine’s Board of Director, including chairman Saiful Islam and Managing Director Sakhawat Hossain, were present at the press conference.
