Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- At least 21 people including 14 women were killed and 30 others injured in a major fire which broke out in a garment factory in Gazipur town, police said.
All the 21 victims died of suffocation as they were stranded on the second and third floor of the seven-storey building, a local police official confirmed.
Fire fighters rescued some nearly 19 stranded workers who were inside the building of a sweater factory in Ghazipur town, about 19 miles (30 kilometers) north of the capital, Dhaka.
The fire was brought under control Friday morning, according to reports.
Fire fighters could not say for sure what caused the fire but they mentioned that a short circuit could be the reason.
