Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladeshi people have witnessed a relaxed strike on Monday as they came out of their homes and performing daily activities during the 12-hour hartal.
BNP-led 20-Party Combine has called the strike to protest the constitutional amendment that empowered parliament members (MPs) to impeach Supreme Court judges for their misbehaviour and incapacity.
The strike which began at 6:00am ended at 6:00pm.
No major untoward incident was reported from any part of the country including capital city Dhaka during the strike hour.
A youth was shot when police, after coming under attack by pickets, opened fire on them in Dhaka.
Vehicular movement remained almost normal like other working days.
A number of students were also seen heading towards educational institutions in the capital defying the strike.
Earlier on September 17, the parliament got back the power to impeach judges through passing the 16th amendment bill in the third session of the tenth parliament.
The bill was passed in the House in 327-0 votes as per recommendation of the concerned parliamentary standing committee.
The government amended the constitution with a view to restoring the 1972 constitution.
