Seven kg gold seized at Bangladesh’s airport, held 1

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- A man was arrested with 64 gold bars weighing seven kilograms (kg) worth BDT 37.50 million at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday morning, officials said.

Umme Nahida, assistant director, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said Abdul Latif 37, a passenger from Dubai and a resident of Satkania in Chittagong district, arrived at the country’s key airport from Dubai by a flight of Emirates Airlines ‘EK-582’ around 8:30am (local time).

On suspicion, customs intelligence officials searched the body and belongings of Abdul Latif and found 64 gold bars weighing 7.5 kg inside three packets of ‘Benson’ brand cigarettes. The market value of the seized gold is BDT 37.50 million.
