Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The single-day turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday touched a new high of BDT 24.40 billion on strong buying and selling spree, market operators said.
The market was in the positive territory until afternoon on buying binge of banking stocks but it moved into red zone started as selling pressure came in late hour, they added.
The single-day turnover on the bourse clocked ever highest of BDT 24.40 billion, beating the previous all-time high of BDT 23.10 billion set on May 17 this year.
The DSE General Index (DGN), the main yardstick of the market, ended at 6324.97 with a meager fall of 0.12 percent or 7.71 points, cutting back early gains of 78 points.
On the other hand, the broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) lost 0.08 per cent or 4.67 points to 5213.58.
“Although the market closed slightly down, it was positive in the early parts of the trading session. DGEN shot up 65 points right at the start; it steadily gained in the opening hour and was between 6,400 and 6,410 points in the next ninety minutes,” a BRAC EPL Investments Limited market update report said.
The leading investment bank's report also said in the closing ninety minutes DGEN went down and lost about 90 points before closing at 6,324.97 points.
Retaining capital gain earned by individual investors tax-free led to feverish activity facilitating the establishment of a new record.
Demand spilled over to insurance, some banking and leasing stocks and thus the unprecedented buoyancy gained momentum, they noted.
