Last updated: August 17, 2010
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The East Coast Group will establish a big renewable power project to provide 'green' electricity to promote renewable energy.
"We want to set up three megawatt solar power plant at Jamalpur, five megawatt plant at Kaptai and one megawatt plant at Sirajganj and these will supply electricity to the national grid," Managing Director of the group Azam J Chowdhury was quoted by the Financial Express (FE), a local newspaper, as saying.
He also said the main objective of the project is to promote sustainable and healthy environmental condition by using green and most potential alternative source of energy in Bangladesh.
Installation costs of the plants are expected to be BDT 3.0 billion, but after installation, the plants will have negligible production costs, Mr Azam added.
Different government agencies, including Prime Minister's Office, and Bangladesh Bank have already installed solar panel. South Korea will help Bangladesh use renewable energy by installing solar power system at the parliament.
