Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-A special tribunal in Bangladesh Wednesday sentenced Muslim League leaders Mahidur Rahman and Afsar Hossain to jail until death for their war crimes that they had committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Mahidur and Afsar to imprisonment until death in charge No 1, five years imprisonment in charge No 2.
The court specially designed to deal with the war crimes also acquitted the duo in the charge No 3.
The duo committed the crimes against humanity in Chapainawabganj, a north-western district of Bangladesh bordering India, during the Liberation War in 1971.
The charges include mass killing, arson, looting, abduction, torture, confinement, and murder committed in the district in 1971.
On April 22, the tribunal kept the case for verdict, after recording the closing arguments placed by both the prosecution and the defence lawyers.
The accused, who were arrested on September 16 last year in a criminal case, were later shown in the war crimes case.
