Dhaka University not to introduce SMS application for 2010-11 admission

Last updated: August 21, 2010
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Dhaka University (DU) will not introduce the mobile phone SMS in the upcoming admission process from the session 2010-11.
"We are not going for the SMS system, as the number of candidates for admission at DU is much higher than those of other universities," DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique was quoted by the Financial Express (FE), a local newspaper, as saying.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology launched the SMS system for its admission formalities during the session 2009-10 for the first time in the country.
Jagannath University is also all set to exercise the SMS system in admission process from the academic year 2010-11.
It is a matter of great regret that despite being the country's oldest and best university, DU is not ready to adopt the SMS system during admission processing, several admission seekers said.
However, the DU authorities have decided to carry out the upcoming admission functions online instead of the traditional form fill-up system.
