Bangladesh raises ceiling for tax-free dividend income

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government has increased the ceiling of tax-free dividend income to Tk 25,000 from the existing Tk 20,000 in the upcoming budget.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith revealed this while unveiling the increased the budget for the fiscal year 2015-16 at the National Parliament in Bangladesh capital Dhaka Thursday afternoon.

“I propose to fix the threshold of tax exemption of dividend income distributed only by listed companies to Tk 25000,” said the Finance Minister in his budget speech.

The Bangladesh’s stock – Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange – demanded  the ceiling of tax-free dividend income to Tk 50,000 in their budget proposals.
