Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated across Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest festival of the Muslims was celebrated on Saturday with millions joining congregations across the country after the month long fasting in Ramadan.

The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah adjacent to High Court in the capital Dhaka while the country's largest jamaat was held at the historic Sholakia Maidan under Kishoreganj.

Besides, Eid jamaats were held at all mosques as well as open spaces including Eidgah all over the country.

President Zillur Rahman, judges and many high- profile people including ministers, mayor of Dhaka, political leaders and diplomats of Muslim countries joined the main congregation at the National Eidgah staged under the auspices of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).

A special munajat was held seeking divine blessings for peace and development of the country, welfare of the people and greater unity and integrity of the Muslim Ummah.

Under the auspice of the DCC Eid congregations were held at all Eidghas and important mosques in all the 90 wards of Dhaka metropolis.

The national flag was hoisted atop government and non-government offices on the occasion. Main city streets were decorated with flags inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic.

In line with traditional practices, the children and elders robed in their bests visited the neighborhood to exchange greetings. As part of a religious obligation, Muslims distributed Zakat and Fitra to the needy to share the joy of the occasion.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken strong security measures in and around the National Eidgah and all other Eid jamaats and its vicinity. However, no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere during the Eid congregations.

The country’s biggest Eid congregation was held at 10:00am at Sholakia, the largest Eidgah ground in the subcontinent, according to reports.

Eminent Islamic thinker Moulana Farid Uddin Masud conducted the prayers seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country, welfare of the people and greater unity of the people and greater unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Around four 400,000 devotees from different long distances thronged Sholakia Eidgah to offer Eid prayers. Many arches were erected while roads decorated with colourful banners.
