Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The board of directors of National Bank Limited (NBL), a leading private commercial bank of Bangladesh, on Tuesday made the bank’s Managing Director (MD) Shamsul Huda Khan officer on special duty (OSD) over alleged different irregularities.
The board also gave the NBL’s Additional Managing Director Badiul Alam the charge of MD at the meeting held at its headquarters in the Dhaka with its Chairman Zainul Haque Sikder in the chair, a board member told BBN.
“We’ve taken the decisions aiming to protect the interests of the depositors and shareholders of the private commercial bank,” he explained.
Earlier on December 10 last year, Mr. Khan was appointed as MD of the NBL for three years after resignation of Shafiqur Rahman.
Mr. Rahman resigned after the alleged irregularities in the bank’s two city branches was unearthed by the Bangladesh Bank authorities.
The central bank of Bangladesh appointed its Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department general manager Kazi Saidur Rahman as an observer at the NBL board on October 08 last year following some irregularities in the loan disbursement at the bank’s Gulshan and Nimtali branch in Dhaka.
