US keen to develop Chittagong Hill Tracts

Rangamati, Bangladesh (BBN)- US Ambassador JF Moriarty on Monday said his government is very sincere towards the development of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) areas where most people are very poor.

A project titled "Integrated protected areas co-management (IPAC)", funded by the US, was launched in CHT for conservation of forests as well as wildlife.

The project will help people of concerned areas for development of their integrated economic condition, said the US envoy while talking to the Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council (RHDC) Nikhil Kumar Chakma at the latter's office, according to The Daily Star, a local newspaper, reports.

The envoy sought cooperation from the district council for successful implementation of the project.

The ambassador also assured the RHDC chairman that he would ask his government for more development works in the region.

Earlier, the ambassador met with chairman of CHT Regional Council Santu Larma at the latter's office.
