Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) returned to the bullish mood in the last week after flat gain in the previous week, market operators said.
The benchmark index, DSE General Index (DGEN), crossed 6900-mark for the first time in the week, ending at 6904.08, which was the second best, with a gain of 1.57 per cent or 106.61 points.
The broader All Shares Price Index (DSI) was up by 1.65 per cent or 94.12 points to 5787.03. The DSE-20 comprising blue chip rose 3.49 per cent or 138.17 points to finish at 4096.84.
The week's average turnover improved, as it was BDT 18.31 billion, showing an increase of 51.39 per cent over the previous week.
Out of 275 issues traded, 155 advanced, 108 declined, two remained unchanged and 10 were not traded.
Most of the major sectors advanced unlike the previous week. Among them, pharmaceuticals sector climbed 6.08 per cent to emerge as the week's top gaining sector, driven by Square Pharmaceuticals, the country's top drug maker, rising 16 per cent.
Cement and service sector gained 5.11 per cent, real estate 5.23 per cent, non-banking financial institutions 4.66 per cent, general insurances 1.52 per cent and life insurances 0.28 per cent.
However, heavyweight sectors like banks dropped 0.22 per cent, telecommunications 0.44 per cent and fuel and power 0.54 per cent, according to reports.
