Bangladesh to import 70,000 tons wheat to meet domestic food demand

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh government will import 70,000 metric tons of wheat to meet the domestic food grains demand, officials said.

Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Monday approved a tender proposal of the Food and Disaster Management Ministry in this regard.

Under the proposal, LMJ International will supply the bulk of the wheat at a rate of $ 332.90 per metric ton. The total procurement will cost BDT 1.62 billion.

The import is being made as part of the government plan to procure 550,000 metric tons of wheat from global market during the fiscal year 2010-11.

Food and Disaster Management Minister Abdur Razzak presided over the Cabinet body meeting.
