Bangladesh mission observes National Mourning Day

Doha, Qatar (BBN)-The Bangladesh embassy in Doha on Saturday observed the 40th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and National Mourning Day.
The programme started with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast, on the embassy premises, by ambassador Syed Masud Mahmood Khundoker, reports the Gulf Times.
It was done in the presence of embassy officials and several Bangladeshi expatriates.
A minute’s silence was then observed as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and the martyrs of August 15, 1975.
Messages from Bangladesh’s president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs on National Mourning Day were read out.
A discussion on the life and works of the Father of the Nation was also held on the occasion. Speakers highlighted the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the national life of Bangladesh and urged all to work wholeheartedly to fulfil his dream of a prosperous Bangladesh.
They also stressed the need for educating the younger generation about the life and works of Bangabandhu.
On the occasion, school students spoke on the life the Father of the Nation.
In his speech, the ambassador recalled Bangabandhu’s role in Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent country, mentioning that 15th August marked the saddest chapter in the history of his country.
“We must learn a lesson here – our mourning should be turned into our strength and we should work hard to fulfil the dream of the Father of the Nation, a golden Bengal,” he said.
He thanked Bangladeshi nationals in Qatar for their hard work and contribution to nation-building, towards achieving the dream of Bangabandhu, and for the demonstration of unity, fraternity and a liberal and moderate attitude.
A documentary on the life and works of Bangabandhu was also screened during the event.
