SAARC Seed Bank to be set up soon

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The SAARC Seed Bank will soon be established in the region in order to negate the adverse effects of climate change. 
The technical committee on Agriculture and Rural Development of SAARC in its sixth meeting held in the capital, Dhaka has approved the proposal of establishing the SAARC Seed Bank, an official announcement said on Wednesday. 
Additional secretary to the agricultural ministry Anowar Faroque presided over the two-day meeting where representatives from Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka participated.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed the setting up of such a bank during the sixteenth SAARC summit in Bhutan. 
The structure of the SAARC Seed Bank will be finalized at a meeting of SAARC Agriculture Ministers which will be held in Dhaka in January 2011.
