Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– A four-member US delegation will arrive in the capital Dhaka on Saturday on a five-day visit for reviewing the progress in line with the US Action Plan.
Assistant United States Trade Representative Michael J Delaney will lead the delegation, a US Embassy statement said in Dhaka on Thursday.
The other members of the delegation include Michael O’Donovan, Director for Labour Affairs of the USTR, Bruce Levine, Office Director, Democracy, Human Rights and Labour (DRL), US Department of State and Jennifer Goodyear, International Relations Officer, International Labour Affairs Bureau (ILAB) of US Department of Labour (USDOL).
The delegation seeks to learn more regarding the efforts made by the government of Bangladesh and other Bangladeshi actors in support of the Sustainability Compact and the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) Action Plan, it added.
The statement also said: “The team will assess progress made and areas for future progress to help ensure a successful Sustainability Compact review meeting in Dhaka in November with the European Union, the International Labour Organisation, the United States, and the Government of Bangladesh.”
During their visit, the delegation will meet with government officials, employers, workers, trade unions, the International Labour Organisation, the Alliance on Bangladesh Worker Safety, the Accord for Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, and other organisations.
The delegation is also expected to visit the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), representatives from the shrimp processing sector and other local organisations in the port city.
