Last updated: September 22, 2015

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank of Bangladesh has asked the commercial banks to ensure operations of ATM (Automated Teller Machine), POS (Point of Sale) and e-payment round the clock during the Eid vacation, officials said.
“The central bank has the measures to ensure the digital financial transactions particularly during the Eid-ul-Azha vacation,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN in Dhaka.
The central banker also said such transactions usually increase significantly during the weekend and other holidays.
The scheduled banks will remain closed from September 24 to September 26 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims.
The BB issued a circular in this connection on Monday and asked the chief executive officers and managing directors of all scheduled banks to take necessary measures to ensure operations of ATM, POS and e-payment.
The banks have been asked to make cash available at ATM booths all the time.
Talking to BBN, another BB official said the central bank has already asked the banks to take adequate security measures at their ATM booths for avoiding any unwanted incidents.
The commercial banks must put up notices in front of the closed or inoperative ATM booths, according to the circular.
If ATM and POS services of any bank remain suspended for unavoidable circumstances, they must have to inform the clients instantly, it added.
Around 7,000 ATM booths are now in operation across the country, of which the Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) alone operates more than 3,000.
On the other hand, 26,000 POS are now in operation, of which the City Bank Limited alone operates around 12,000, the data showed.
