Trollhattan, Sweden (BBN)-A masked man with a sword has killed a teacher and wounded at least two students at a school in Sweden before being shot by police.
The attacker is being treated for gunshot wounds in a nearby hospital in the city of Trollhattan, police said, reports BBC.
Niklas Claesson, a spokesman for the NAL hospital, said the student victims were "young but not kids".
"Some of them have serious injuries and are being operated on. One person is deceased at the scene," he said.
Police responded to an emergency call reporting an attack in the cafe area of the Kronan school, which has 400 students. Students were seen fleeing the building.
"Shortly after this we received information that the assailant had been shot by police," the police said.
A police spokesman said there was "considerable confusion" at the school.
Reports of the number of people injured vary.
Police initially said four students had been hurt, while hospital authorities later put the figure at two.
Sweden's interior minister, Anders Ygeman, said on Twitter: "It is with sadness and dismay I received the news of the attack on the school in Trollhattan. My thoughts go to the victims and their families."
Trollhattan is about 50 miles north of Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city.
