Suu Kyi's NLD wins majority in Myanmar

Last updated: November 13, 2015

Yangon, Myanmar (BBN) - The National League for Democracy (NLD) has won a majority in Myanmar's historic general election, say officials, ending decades of military-backed rule.
With more than 80 per cent of seats declared, Aung San Suu Kyi's party has more than the two-thirds it needs to control parliament and choose the president, reports BBC.
But a quarter of seats are allocated to the military, which means it will remain hugely influential.
Myanmar's constitution bars Ms Suu Kyi from becoming president herself.
