Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Four state-owned commercial banks (SCBs) are disbursing BDT 4.13 billion loans to procure raw hide of sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.
Only those regular parties who have already repaid their earlier dues, have been qualified for fresh loans in line with the existing guidelines, issued by the SCBs earlier, bank officials said.
Under the guidelines, those who failed to repay their previous loans would not be entitled to fresh credit to purchase the raw hide.
The Sonali Bank Limited has already approved BDT 600 million which is almost the same amount of the previous year against three parties for purchasing hide and skin during the Eid.
The Janata Bank Limited has decided to disburse BDT 2.57 billion against 26 parties this year, up by BDT 770 million from the previous year, to facilitate the country's leather sector.
"We've already started disbursing the funds to our clients," a senior official of the Janata Bank said adding that the bank has approved the loans on the basis of repayment status.
The Agrani Bank Limited has decided to provide BDT 900 million this year to tanners for purchasing raw hides as against BDT 1.43 billion of the previous year.
