US official for South, Central Asian Affairs arrives in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alyssa Ayres arrived in Dhaka on Sunday for a five-day round of meetings with senior Bangladesh government officials, political leaders, civil society groups, entrepreneurs and the media.  
In addition to her activities in Dhaka, Ayres will travel to Sylhet to tour a USAID Integrated Protected Area Co-Management project and meet with alumni of U.S. Embassy exchange programs. 
 She will depart on December 2, a US embassy press statement said in Dhaka.
Dr. Alyssa Ayres assumed her duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia in August 2010.  Her portfolio includes India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives. 
She joined the Department of State from McLarty Associates, the Washington-based international strategic advisory firm, where she led the India and South Asia practice.
