Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh stocks closed slightly higher for the second consecutive session on Thursday amid choppy trading as investors remained followed cautious stance.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh and Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country opened with a positive mood and the upward trend sustain till end of the session.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) advanced 6.87 points while the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) earned 3.95 points at the closing on Thursday.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 4,587.66, advancing 6.87 points or 0.15 per cent, after witnessing volatility throughout the session.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 7.02 points or 0.39 per cent to finish at 1,766.22 points.
The DSE Shariah Index rose 4.49 points or 0.40 per cent to close at 1,125.40 points.
The market activities remained poor as total turnover on the premier bourse came down to BDT 4.41 billion, which was 6.36 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 4.71 billion.
The losers, however, took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 325 issues traded, 154 closed lower, 1126 higher and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Lafarge Surma Cement dominated the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 258 million changing hands followed by United Power, BSRM, Beximco Pharma and IFAD Autos.
Agrani Insurance was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 7.50 per cent while Gemeni Sea Food was the worst loser, slumping by 7.09 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also edged higher with its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, advancing 3.95 points to finish at 8,607.72.
Losers beat gainers as 124 issues closed lower, 88 lower and 37 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 8.80 million shares and mutual fund units worth above BDT 301 million in turnover.
