Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks ended higher for the fourth session in a row on Thursday with improving turnover value as investors remained active on large-cap stocks.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country opened with an upward trend which continued till end of the session.
The market started with a flying note and the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 38 points and crossed the 4,400-mark within first 90 minutes of trading, but could sustain that level, eventually ended nearly 29 points higher.
The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) advanced 28.57 points, while the selective category index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) earned 64.23 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, settled at 4,392.88, gaining 28.57 points 0.65 per cent.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, surged 10.67 points or 0.62 per cent to finish at 1,719.22 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 5.70 points or 0.53 per cent to end at 1,077.47.
Trading activities also improved and the total turnover amounted to BDT 4.25 billion on the DSE, which was 18 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 3.61 billion.
Gainers took a strong lead over the losers, as out of 301 issues traded, 208 closed higher, 57 closed lower and 36 remained unchanged on DSE trading floor.
Shahjibazar Power Company Limited (SPCL) dominated the turnover with some 1.61 million shares worth BDT 194 million changing hands, followed by United Power BDT 187 million, Lafarge Surma Cement BDT 169 million, MJL BD BDT 152 million and Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills BDT 111 million.
Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.76 per cent, while Sonargoan Textiles was the worst loser, losing 3.66 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher for the fourth session with its Selective Categories Index, CSCX, gaining 64.23 points to 8,237.19 points.
Gainers beat losers as 158 issues closed higher, 48 closed lower and 23 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 9.46 million shares and mutual fund units worth over BDT 265 million in turnover.
