Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks returned to green on Thursday, snapping previous day’s downturn, as investors went on late hours buying spree on large-cap stocks.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the port city bourse of the country, witnessing volatility in the first half of the session, while last half kept positive momentum as some optimistic investors took position on lucrative large-cap stocks.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange advanced 21.97 points while the port city bourse, selective catagory index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange earned 49.84 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
By the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 21.97 points or 0.50 per cent to settle at 4,388 points.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 14.95 points or 0.88 per cent to finish at 1,707.96 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 8.10 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 1,076.58 points.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, however, came down to BDT 3.50 billion, which was 7.16 per cent lower than the previous day’s BDT 3.77 billion.
The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 314 issues traded, 151 closed higher, 99 closed lower and 64 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Lafarge Surma Cement dominated the turnover chart with shares worth nearly BDT 237 million changing hands, followed by United Power, Heidelberg Cement, Shahjibazar Power Company and Far East Knitting and Dyeing Industries.
Zaheentex Industries was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.73 per cent, while Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills was the worst loser, plunging 6.45 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also return to green with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX- advancing 49.84 points to close at 8,225.65 points.
Gainers beat losers 116 to 63, with 73 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 9.53 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 247 million.
