Bangladesh’s stocks down on profit booking

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh stocks slipped into the red on Monday with turnover improving further as late hour profit taking sale pressure wiped out early gains.
Both the Dhaka Stock Exchange, the prime bourse of Bangladesh, and Chittagong Stock Exchange, the port city bourse of the country, opened higher and key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained nearly 25 points within first hour of trading, but rest of the session fell steadily, eventually ended slightly lower.
The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) shedded 3.78 points, while the selective category index of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also lost 14.49 points at the closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE:
At the end of the session, the DSEX, the prime index of the DSE settled at 4,423, shedding 3.78 points or 0.08 per cent.
The two other indices also returned to red.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 0.97 point or 0.05 per cent to finish at 1,733.77 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 1.95 points or 0.17 per cent to close at 1,089.69 points.
DSE turnover remained high as total turnover amounted to BDT 4.64 billion, which was 8.41 per cent higher than the previous day’s BDT 4.28 billion.
The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 317 issues traded, 157 closed lower, 107 closed higher and 53 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company dominated the turnover chart with shares worth nearly BDT 338 million changing hands, followed by Lafarge Surma Cement Tk 272 million, Saif Powertec BDT 187 million, MJL BD BDT 152 million and Shahjibazar Power Company BDT 144 million.
Vanguard AML BD Finance Mutual Fund One was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 6.74 per cent, while Saif Powertec was the worst loser, plunging 7.96 per cent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE:
The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in the red with its Selective Categories Index- CSCX- falling 14.49 points to close at 8,276.93 points.
Losers beat gainers 117 to 84, with 33 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 11.81 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of BDT 289 million.
